Tribute

Many years have passed, yet it seems like only yesterday we stood at the airport and watched your plane take to the sky. Little did any of we kids know that it would be the last time we would see you. But we didn’t know, so watched that plane until we couldn’t see it any longer.

We got in the car and Mom drove us all home. To us it was just like the times before, you would go away, Mom would write letters, and you would come home and we would go to the next post. That didn’t happen though. You never came back and all of us had to learn a new normal.

I don’t believe we have figured that out yet. There is still this unspoken gap in all our lives. We do things, we have moments and milestones and we want to share them with you. We wonder what it would be like if you were here. There just always seems to be a someone missing. That someone is you.

Your space is there…empty…and always waiting.

Tribute

Thread of time, moments of memory frozen then remembered.

An expression, emotion, a pattern of movement and it quickens my heart.

A fragrance in the air, sound carried upon a breeze and memories arise from where they’ve been stored.

A fragment of remembrance in a son or daughter’s movement, the laughter of a grandchild.

A moment susupended, a journey back in the blink of time and then forward again in a new memory.

A blending of past and new lives, the undendeing circle of family and heritage.

The confirmation that those we’ve loved left pieces in us, around us.

And my heart took pictures and I remember.

Now my soul rejoices and once again you live.
