Tribute

Many years have passed, yet it seems like only yesterday we stood at the airport and watched your plane take to the sky. Little did any of we kids know that it would be the last time we would see you. But we didn’t know, so watched that plane until we couldn’t see it any longer.

We got in the car and Mom drove us all home. To us it was just like the times before, you would go away, Mom would write letters, and you would come home and we would go to the next post. That didn’t happen though. You never came back and all of us had to learn a new normal.

I don’t believe we have figured that out yet. There is still this unspoken gap in all our lives. We do things, we have moments and milestones and we want to share them with you. We wonder what it would be like if you were here. There just always seems to be a someone missing. That someone is you.

Your space is there…empty…and always waiting.
