"Children are the living messages
we send to a time we will not see”

History of the Hawaiian Lei

The lei custom was introduced to the Hawaiian Islands by early Polynesian voyagers,
who took an incredible journey from Tahiti, navigating by the stars in sailing canoes.
With these early settlers, the lei tradition in Hawaii was born.
Leis were constructed of flowers, leaves, shells, seeds, nuts, feathers, and even bone and teeth of various animals.
These garlands were worn by ancient Hawaiians to beautify themselves and distinguish themselves from others.
Hawaii leis mark any important event in a person's life.
A lei should be a welcomed celebration of one person's affection to another as a symbol of love and friendship.

History of the SDIT Vietnam Trip Lei

The lei custom was introduced to the Sons and Daughters in Touch Vietnam Trip 2003 by a daughter of The Wall,
who took an incredible virtual journey via the internet to Vietnam.
Because of these first-time participants to Vietnam, the lei tradition of SDIT was born.
Leis were constructed out of a stainless steel tag and chain, love, honor, peace and understanding.
These garlands will be worn by those who traveled, with the FIRST ever group of Wall Children to Vietnam,
to distinguish themselves from others.
This lei will mark the importance of this trip in your life.
This lei is a welcomed celebration of one SDIT member‘s affection and appreciation to another.

Whether you chose to wear this SDIT-Vietnam Lei on special occasions,
on the anniversary of the trip, when you visit The Wall, or hook it to your key ring,
may you remember our Fathers, the BOND, that holds us together FOREVER- You are never alone.
